Rooibos is a red bush herbal tea from South Africa. It is caffeine free and said to have many health benefits. It is calorie free and great to drink hot or iced. It has a bright red brew, even on the second infusion. The taste is smoother than green or black teas, because it lacks the astringent tannins that are typical of those teas. Red teas are full of minerals, such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, copper, sodium, iron, and manganese, as well as vitamin C and antioxidants. Antioxidants have been shown to help the body fight free radical damage.
Hot tea brewing method
Heat freshly drawn water to a boiling 100°C. Put 1 teaspoon of rooibos per cup into your teapot or tea infuser. Pour the boiling water over the leaves and let brew for 3-7 minutes.
Iced tea brewing method
Make as for hot, but add extra tea - when the tea has cooled a little pour over ice. It is important to make it a little stronger as the ice will water it down.
Alternatively, you can place the tea in a jug and add cold water. Leave to infuse for a few hours (or overnight in the fridge) strain and enjoy. Cold brewing will give a smoother taste.
